Shopify Integration
Connect your Shopify store to Nexvio and turn your AI agent into an e-commerce assistant that can browse products, track orders, manage the cart, and look up customer details.
Shopify Integration
Connect your Shopify store to Nexvio so your agent can help shoppers browse products, get recommendations, look up recent orders and returns, manage their cart, and view their account details through conversation.
For the Shopify app integration, you do not need to paste embed code into your theme. After installing the Nexvio AI app and linking an agent, enable its theme app embed in the Shopify theme editor.
How Nexvio connects differently
Nexvio is built around workspaces and agents, so the connection model is different from a single-agent chatbot:
- Shopify connects to a Nexvio workspace.
- Each store is attached to its own agent in that workspace. Setup creates and links an agent for the store automatically; if that is not possible (for example, your plan's agent limit is reached), it lets you choose an available agent that is not already used by another store.
- One workspace can connect multiple stores. Each additional store you install gets its own agent, and an agent can serve only one store. Only workspace owners and admins can connect a store, and a store can belong to only one workspace at a time.
- That agent powers the store's widget and receives the Shopify actions.
Imported product data lives in the workspace's data sources and can be shared with other agents. Shopify actions are mapped to the linked store agent; account actions also require the shopper's customer context.
Integration methods
You can start from the Nexvio dashboard or directly from the Shopify App Store. Both entry points lead to installation and setup inside Shopify Admin.
| Connect from the Nexvio dashboard (recommended) | Install from the Shopify App Store | |
|---|---|---|
| Where you start | Nexvio dashboard | Shopify App Store |
| Agents | An agent is created and linked for the store during embedded setup | An agent is created and linked for the store during embedded setup |
| Best for | Teams already using Nexvio | New users setting up directly from Shopify |
| Widget install | Enable in Shopify theme editor | Enable in Shopify theme editor |
Both methods install the same Nexvio AI app. Launching the listing from an agent's integration card does not automatically select that agent for the store.
Method 1: Connect from the Nexvio dashboard
Use this method if you already have a Nexvio account.
Step 1: Open the Shopify integration
- In the Nexvio dashboard, open an agent and go to its Widget tab.
- Find the Shopify card and click Connect Shopify.
Step 2: Install the Nexvio AI app
Connecting requires the Nexvio AI app to be installed on your store.
- In the dialog, click Go to Shopify App Store to open the Nexvio AI listing.
- Click Install and review the requested permissions.
- Approve the installation in your Shopify Admin.
Step 3: Finish setup inside Shopify
Open Nexvio AI inside Shopify Admin and follow its setup prompts. Nexvio sets up the store's connection and workspace as needed.
- If you own or administer more than one workspace, choose which workspace the store belongs to.
- Nexvio creates and links an agent for the store. If it cannot, select an available agent that is not already linked to another store, or create one.
- Finish linking the agent before enabling the storefront widget.
- In the embedded app's Setup tab, click View agent to open the linked agent's dashboard. Check the workspace and agent there before configuring data or actions.
If a dashboard OAuth flow sends you to Complete your Shopify connection, review the displayed store, workspace, and selected agent, then click Complete connection. An already connected store shows a shortcut to the linked agent's integration settings and data sources. These callback screens are separate from the embedded setup used by the App Store installation.
Method 2: Install from the Shopify App Store
Use this method if you'd rather start inside Shopify.
Step 1: Install the app
- Open the Nexvio AI listing on the Shopify App Store.
- Click Install and approve the requested permissions in your Shopify Admin.
Step 2: Finish setup in the embedded app
After installation, the Nexvio app opens inside your Shopify Admin and walks you through setup:
- Nexvio sets up the store's workspace and Shopify connection as needed.
- If you own or administer more than one workspace, choose the workspace for the store. Nexvio then creates and links the store's agent; if it cannot, follow the prompts to select or create one.
- Open the app's Setup tab to sync products, edit the agent's system prompt, enable the widget, or open the linked agent's dashboard through View agent.
After connecting
Sync your products
Nexvio indexes your catalog so the agent can answer product questions and make recommendations.
- Linking the agent starts a background product import. Shopify product webhooks update the imported data as products change.
- To start a catalog import manually, open the embedded app's Setup tab and click Sync products under Product sync. The import and indexing take time; check the sync status and data sources before testing answers.
Enable actions
Actions let your agent query Shopify and help shoppers use the storefront cart. Linking a store agent provisions Shopify actions and maps them to that agent. Review the agent's Actions settings to confirm the actions are available and enabled.
| Action | What the agent can do |
|---|---|
| Product lookup | Fetch product details, variants, and pricing |
| List products | Browse active products |
| Recommend products | Suggest products that match a shopper's described need |
| Compare products | Put two or three products side by side |
| Inventory | Check real-time stock for a variant |
| Discounts | List active discount codes |
| Order history | Show recent orders for a signed-in customer |
| Return status | Check the status of a return for a signed-in customer |
| Customer profile | View a signed-in customer's name, email, tags, and default address |
| Cart actions | Add, view, update, and remove items in the Shopify storefront cart using the storefront widget |
Install the agent widget
- In the embedded app's Setup tab, find Storefront widget and click Open widget editor. This opens the current theme in Shopify's theme editor.
- Enable the Nexvio AI app embed.
- Adjust the widget's settings and save the theme. If you publish another theme later, enable the app embed in that theme too.
Personalized and account actions
Some actions — order history, return status, and customer profile — need the shopper's Shopify customer context. Test these through the widget on your Shopify storefront while signed in to a store customer account. If customer context is absent, the action asks the shopper to log in. Signing in to the Nexvio dashboard alone does not supply storefront customer context.
For custom widget identity verification outside this Shopify flow, see Identity Verification.
Managing the connection
- Open the linked agent's Widget tab to review the connected store, or use the embedded app's Setup tab for sync status and settings.
- To disconnect, uninstall the Nexvio AI app from your Shopify Admin under Settings → Apps and sales channels. Uninstalling removes the connection and the widget and disables the integration. Imported product data stays in your workspace for reference — you can delete it from Data Sources if you no longer need it.
Troubleshooting
- The app says you need access to the store. The store is already connected to a workspace you are not a member of. Ask that workspace's owner to invite you with the email you use in Shopify; you are not added automatically.
- The connection screen says a different store/workspace. Check the store in Shopify Admin and use View agent to confirm the linked workspace and agent before continuing.
- Products aren't showing up in answers. Run Sync products from the embedded app's Setup tab, then check that import and indexing have finished.
- Order history or account lookups aren't working. Use the storefront widget while signed in to your Shopify customer account. Confirm the relevant actions are enabled on the linked agent.
- The widget isn't visible on the storefront. Confirm the Nexvio app embed is enabled in your active theme via the Shopify theme editor.
